T3 – How To Change Your Group Settings On LinkedIn

Return to LinkedIn Overview

Transcript

LinkedIn Groups can be a vital part of your Business Development Activities but sometimes you may find yourself bogged down with a large amount of emails or find yourself being invited to groups that you have no wish to join.

To edit these settings first go to LinkedIn and go to your image in the top left hand corner, then go down to privacy and settings.  When the new page opens go to the table at the bottom and choose the ‘Groups, Companies and Applications’ Tab.

There are various settings that you can alter.  You can edit the order that the groups you are a member of appear on your profile, you may wish to do this if you have your own groups or perhaps they are groups that you are proud of being a member. You simply select the link and you can then either number the groups in the order you wish them to be shown or use the arrows to move them manually.  You can also edit the settings of the group from here, whether you are an administrator or simply a member.  This is also one of the ways you can leave a group, by selecting the icon in the bottom right. Then save your changes

You can set the frequency of your group digest emails all in one place.  Simply select the link and you will be presented with a list of all the groups you are a member of.  You can then choose to have a Weekly or Daily email digest or no email at all.  It can sometimes take a few days for these changes to take effect.

If you find that you are being invited to groups that hold no interest for you then you can prevent people from doing this by selecting ‘Turn on/off group invitations’

If you don’t want others to know that you have joined certain groups that set up alerts when people join you can turn these off by selecting ‘Turn on/off notifications when joining groups’

This tab also allows you to edit you applications, these are other applications not owned by LinkedIn that you have allowed access to, to remove an application tick the box next to it and then select remove.  Should you remove an application by accident you can always go back to the application and grant access again.
